How to use Kids Worksheets Generator

Everything is inside the one file you downloaded. Nothing is uploaded, nothing leaves your computer, and it works with no internet at all.

Opening it

Find kids-worksheets-generator.html in your Downloads folder and double click it. It opens in your normal web browser. There is nothing to install and no account to make.

If double clicking does nothing, right click the file, choose Open with, and pick Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox. It is worth moving the file to your Desktop or Documents folder so you can find it again.

The screen at a glance

The tool with four areas numbered
  1. 1The eight activities. Click one and the sheet on the right changes straight away.
  2. 2The settings for that activity. Everything updates as you type, so you can see the effect immediately.
  3. 3The sheet itself. This is exactly what will come out of your printer.
  4. 4Print, or save it as a PDF. More on that below.

Choosing an activity

There are eight, and each one makes a brand new sheet every time.

The eight activity buttons

Once you have a sheet you like the look of, press Make a different one to get fresh questions with exactly the same settings. Press it as many times as you want, for a whole week of homework if you like.

Printing, and saving a PDF

The print button at the bottom of the settings

Press the green button and your browser opens its own print window.

To print on paper, choose your printer and press Print.

To keep a PDF instead, look for the setting called Destination or Printer at the top of that window, change it to Save as PDF, then press Save and pick where to put the file. Your browser makes the PDF for you, so there is nothing extra to buy or install.

Two settings worth checking the first time

Set Margins to None, and Scale to 100 per cent. Turn off anything called Fit to page. Turn off Headers and footers too, otherwise your browser prints the date and a web address along the edge of the sheet.

Settings that are easy to miss

Paper size, worksheet font, number of sheets, and the two tick boxes
Scroll to the bottom of the settings to find these.

Putting a child's name on a tracing sheet

The tracing settings with the name field

Choose Tracing, set Trace to A name or word, then type the name. You can also choose the handwriting style your school teaches, and set how many guided rows they trace before writing on their own.

If something does not look right

I am getting more pages than I wanted

The page count sits above the sheet. Lower the number of problems, letters, boxes or clocks to bring it back to a single sheet.

The page counter above the preview

A red message appeared under the settings

That is the tool telling you something did not fit, and what to do about it. It is not an error. Long words need a bigger word search grid, for example.

A red message explaining which words did not fit

The page is cut off, or the margins look wrong

In the print window set Margins to None and Scale to 100 per cent, and turn off Fit to page. Check that the paper size there matches the one you chose in the tool.

A web address or a date is printed along the edge

That comes from your browser, not from the worksheet. In the print window, turn off Headers and footers.

Does it work on a tablet?

Yes, on iPad and Android tablets as well as Windows and Mac. A phone screen is too narrow to be comfortable, so use a tablet or a computer.

Do I need the internet?

Never. The fonts and everything else are built into the file. It works on a plane or in a classroom with no wifi, and nothing you type is ever sent anywhere.

I lost the file

Sign in to the shop you bought it from and download it again from your purchases. Your download does not expire.

There is a Help button in the top corner of the tool with a short version of this page, so you do not need to keep this document open while you work.

If something is wrong and none of this helped, message me through the shop before leaving a review. I would much rather fix it for you.
